Tributes pour in for ‘marvellous’ Marvin

Former Football League footballer Marvin Morgan has shockingly passed away at the age of 38. Morgan became a fashion designer and respected campaigner in the twilight of and after his playing career, and numerous clubs and players have paid tribute after the sad news.

He was primarily a non-league player throughout his 20-year career but represented Aldershot Town, Dagenham and Redbridge, Hartlepool United, Plymouth Argyle and Shrewsbury Town at professional level.

Marvin made 93 appearances for the Shots between 2008 and 2012 scoring 25 goals. These two in a home win vs Lincoln when all the goals were scored by a Morgan!

Though Town once suspended the player after social media remarks he made after being booed when being substituted in a game against Hereford.

The club later stated:

“The football club are satisfied that the player meant no malice with his comments. However they were completely irresponsible and contrary to the values of Aldershot Town Football Club.”

His final stint as a footballer was with Isthmian League Premier Division side Potters Bar Town in 2020.

In the latter years of Morgan’s career, he became a fashion designer and founded Fresh Ego Kid.

The clothing brand has been publicly worn and praised by Premier League footballers and celebrities in different industries.

Morgan’s work as an entrepreneur and campaigner has made him so widely loved throughout the football community.

Anthony Joshua, Raheem Sterling and Romelu Lukaku are just three big names who have been spotting sporting Fresh Ego Kid attire.

Marvin Morgan played for 17 clubs during his football career but was most active at Aldershot Town and Shrewsbury Town before falling ill while training with Plymouth Argyle.

After his condition was revealed in 2018, Marvin described almost dying when he fell ill – collapsing twice in a day while training after suffering a night seizure that caused haemorrhaging.

He said at the time: ‘I am on medication for the rest of my life and I have something called a cavernoma. It is something to do with blood vessels in the brain and I have nocturnal seizures. Describing what forced him to quit football he said: ‘So what happened on that day was I had a seizure in my sleep, went to training, tried to run and basically when you seizure it drains you of all energy. Trying to run made me seizure again and it made me dehydrated which made me worse’.

Naturally tributes have poured in from the football community.

Brentford striker Ivan Toney posted an image of Morgan outside his Fresh Ego Kid shop with two love hearts underneath.

Meanwhile, Chelsea star Callum Hudson-Odoi also took to Instagram to express his thoughts on the sad loss.

He stated: “Hearing this news this morning is a tragedy!! RIP brother, you’ll be truly missed.”
